Located just 7-miles south of Grayson, Kentucky on State Route 7, this Corps project encompasses 17,085-acres. The impounded waters of the Little Sandy River form the 1,510-acres, 20-miles long Grayson Lake. Narrow & winding, the Lake's scenic cliffs range from 30-200 ft. high above the Lake surface. The magnificently sculptured cliffs have a smooth, contoured surface enhanced by centuries of weathering. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers directly manages 643-acres at the Dam Site, which includes recreation facilities listed below. A Marina, operated by a private concessionaire, is located at the dam site. The Corps of Engineers operates an office & information center at the Dam Site Recreation Area. Greenbo Lake is on Kentucky 1711, 4-miles west of Kentucky 1, 18-miles north of I-64 from the Grayson exit. This 225-acres lake is home of 2 state largemouth bass records! Enjoy the view at the Jesse Stuart Lodge. The campground features 63 sites with utility hook-ups & 35 primitive sites, 2 dumping stations, 2 central service buildings with showers & rest rooms, & a grocery store guarantee camping convenience. The marina is open Apr. 1 - Oct. 31, swimming pool adjacent to the lodge is for the exclusive use of lodge guests, newly built community pool is open from Memorial Day-Labor Day from 10am-6pm with an admission fee, the whole of the lake is idle only, all boaters must observe no wake speeds, fishing pier & boat ramp for launching boats, an 18-hole miniature golf course is in the camping area is open Apr.– Oct., self-guided trails provide 25-miles of easy to difficult hiking, tennis & basketball courts are located in the park, daily summer activities & year-round special events for children & adults are planned under the guidance of a trained recreation director, the park has 2 picnic shelters in the beach area (with rest rooms), & in the campground (without rest rooms), picnic tables, grills & playgrounds provide for hours of fun, and there is a fee for shelter rental. Lewis Caveland Lodge, built of beautiful fieldstone, offers 28 rooms with full amenities. Test your skills on the 9-hole regulation golf course. Call toll free for reservations, (800) 325-0059. 45-acres Smokey Valley Lake is Kentucky’s 1st & only trophy bass lake! Fishing license required for both residents & non-residents & is available at the Front Desk & bait can be purchased at the campground. There is a road incline into the lake. No motorboats allowed. A large swimming pool is located a ˝-mile drive from the lodge & is free to lodge & cottage guests. Open daily Memorial Day-Labor Day. Open on Labor Day, lifeguard-protected, hours are usually 11am-8pm, & fee Charged. Cave Tours are conducted daily throughout the year. Also enjoy the 18-hole miniature golf course, open seasonally. Discover the aboveground beauty of Carter Caves on 26-miles of wooded nature trails that range from easy to difficult hiking level ability. 2 tennis courts are in the lodge area. Picnic tables, grills, & playgrounds are located throughout the park. 2 rental shelters are available. One of the most popular special events at Carter Caves is the Carter Caves Crawlathon, usually held the last weekend in January. Guided tours through wild caves are offered. The Welcome Center provides cave tour info & orientation, rest rooms, & a gift shop featuring authentic Kentucky handcrafts. Of the 20 caves found in the park, 3 caves have been prepared for tours, Cascade Cave is exceptionally beautiful & features an underground waterfall over 30 ft high; X Cave is named for the shape of its passages & noted for many formations; Saltpetre Cave is tied to fascinating early Kentucky history; & Bat Cave (the largest cave in the park) is the winter home to thousands of rare bats & shown only during the summer. Wild Caves Laurel Cave & Horn Hollow Cave can be explored unguided with a permit. Permits are available at the Welcome Center at no charge. Tour Schedule, Fees, & other details, a fee is charged for tours & tours are arranged for school groups. Bat Cave & Saltpetre Cave tours are seasonal & only open from Memorial Day weekend-Labor Day weekend.
